What To Ask When Calling For A New Family Dentist

If you have recently moved to a new area, you are going to need to do a few things to make sure that your lives continue to run as normal. This means getting everything from the location of your favorite stores to finding a new family dentist. When it comes to finding a brand new family dentist for everyone to start going to, you will need to call around and ask a lot of questions. The more details you can get, the easier it will be to decide which family dentist you will want to schedule a new patient appointment with. Here are some questions you might ask over the phone:

What's Your Policy For Emergency Dental Issues?

Some family dentist offices do not have any time reserved in their daily schedule for sudden dental emergencies. Other practices might have two appointment slots reserved for the morning so those who might call in the day before complaining of a severe abscess or something similar. If you find a family dentist that might be the most ideal one and they don't have reserved appointment slots, you could see if there is an emergency dental walk-in clinic nearby.

Do You Have Any Evening Hours?

The kids have school. You have work. Everyone tends to be rather busy during the day and that can make it hard to keep up with the dental appointments if they are only available earlier in the day. You might want to call around to find some dental offices that have evening availability. Some might only have one evening each week and others might have Saturday appointment times that would work well for you.

Can You Schedule The Kids Together?

If you have more than one child, you might want to see if the family dentist can schedule your kids either all at the same time or one right after another. This way, you can set aside one day that is for all of the kids to get their teeth cleaned and examined, without it taking up the entire day.

As you can see, there are some questions you need to make sure that you are asking when calling around to see which family dentist is accepting new patients. Be sure to write notes on each of the dental practices so you can easily refer back to the information you were given when it is time to make a decision.
